How did the business start? Who currently runs the business?
- The business was started in 1983 by William Howdy when he finished his service with The United States Marine Corps. William lead the business for 25 years with a focus on the residential sector, but in the early 2000’s there was a shift to municipality and government projects based off the stability and size of projects. In 2006, William’s sons joined the business and started to learn the industry hands on. Fast forward to 2015 and the business was purchased by his sons, ensuring the business will continue to be owned and operated by the family.
Tell me about your business operations and what an average job looks like?
- Riverdale Plumbing & Heating Inc. focus mainly on government and municipality work throughout Massachusetts with a focus on new installation of heating and cooling systems. A typical project would be removing and replacing boiler units at a town hall or housing complex; projects last anywhere from 1 to 6 months. They maintain good relationships with both the Local 537 Pipefitter’s union and Local 12 Plumbers & Gasfitters union. Recently they have had projects in Lawrence, Norwood and Falmouth.
How has the industry changes since you started?
- The construction industry has scene large growth in technologies advances over the past 15 years which has increased production capacity. Property owners and municipalities expect technology forward products which help with efficiency and cost. As a business; Riverdale has done a great job staying current with industry trends and meeting clients’ needs when it comes to installing new technology forward mechanical systems.
How do you plan to grow the company over the next 5 years?
- The goal over the next 5 years is to grow our service team, at this stage the majority of the work is new installations. There is a large market for mechanical service companies to work with large apartment and housing complexes, 24-hour plants, offices and manufacturing sites.

What do you do in your free time?
- Micah is an avid golfer and enjoys watching Boston’s sports teams.
